Breakwater “Sassere”
On the eastern side of the island there are random traces of breakwater “sassere”, which allowed dockings and access to the water for bathing and swimming. In the past, the local fishermen, who were personally involved in the maintenance of the shores and deeply knew the currents of the lake, used to build them in stone, as barriers and long and narrow walls, perpendicularly to the shore, so as to hold back the waves and protect the included stretches of beach. Today, the dismantlement of this system, which was essential for a balanced correlation between shores and dockings, has increased the number of floating buoys managed by the coastal restaurant activities.
